October can mean a lot of things to different folks, some would think of the State Fair, some may think Fantasy Football, and of course Halloween. But to dedicated beer lovers in Durham, NC it means The World Beer Festival hosted by All About Beer. On October 10th World Beer Festival popped its cap on its 20th anniversary, and it may had been the best one to date. Last year Beer Fest brought in extra perks for its fans, such as the coveted Belgium Beer Tent, and a tent that was dedicated to the finest Cider from all over, including Durham’s own Bull City Cider Works. There was noticeably more food to choose from as well, of course Bull City staples such as Chirba Chirba Dumplings (Sausage Curls, you have to try), Liv’s Food Truck (RJ the new Chef knows how to fry a mean corn dog), Pie Pushers and R&B Soul Food (The Chicken Wings are amazing!), all were in attendance; but the new comers like Small Cakes (located in Southwest Durham) with their famous cupcakes stole the show.

This year’s festivities will start with the second annual” Seasonal Showcase” on Friday October 14th, from 4:30 pm -8:30 pm. The “Seasonal Showcase” will feature samples of seasonal beers from 20 different breweries, and unlimited sampling with a 6 oz. cup. Tickets are only $30.00 and it’s a separate purchase to the World Beer Festival. This will be a grand pre-party to get everyone in the mood for the grand event, The World Beer Festival following the next day Saturday October15th.

The main event on Saturday October 15th will have a day (12-4pm) and night (6-10pm) session. The Beer Line-Up is stacked with the most of the best selections in the industry. North Carolina Breweries such as Duck Rabbit, Pony Saurus, Full Steam and Gizmo BrewWorks, are just a few of the long list of local stars that will be there for our enjoyment. The regional and national beers are just as exciting with Thomas Creek, Harpoon Brewery, Lauginitas Brewing Company, and many other favorites to round out the list. This year will also see the return of both the Cider Tent, and the Belgium Beer Festival. The Cider Tent will be open to everyone with a ticket, and samples of 20 different cider breweries will be available. Last year this was the ultimate addition along with the Belgium Beer Festival. The Belgium Bier Festival requires a separate ticket from the beer festival ($15, even if your VIP), and the best Belgium beers that you can this is a MUST and the list is not yet finished, but check out what they have so far. Affligem, Affligem (Belgian blonde), Brassiere Dubuisson, Scaldis Peche Mel (peach beer), Cuvee des Trolls (Belgian blonde). PonySaurus will also be hosting a Thursday Beer Festival event, called The Paint and Pour. A local artist from Bull City Craft, will instruct a course on how to paint a World Beer Canvas, and it includes a pint of beer. Tickets are $25.00 and they’re separate from the Beer Festival ticket.
The World Beer Fest in the past has featured a full line-up of music; with Bands, Performers and Deejays. This year will be no exception. RAGE, BEER, DANCE, REPEAT!
